Artist: Meggan Czapiga, Bethesda, MD

Inspiration for this quilt comes from my love for science and learning. In 2000 I received my PhD in Neuroscience from Georgetown University and I have been incorporating science in my art quilts since 2004. I am intrigued how patterns in nature repeat themselves and there is no exception for the miraculous neuron, which comes in many shapes and sizes.

The quilt is made out of cotton fabrics, batik fabrics, Angelina™ fiber, cotton threads and fancy yarns for appliqué and hand embroidery.

Techniques include fusible appliqué, free motion quilting, free-form design, and hand embroidery. I have never hand embroidered before so I am really stretching myself.
