Artist: Jennifer Burns, Bricktown, NJ

For this quilt, I was inspired by my mother-in-law. At the time of sign ups, we had just found out she was battling stomach cancer. Unfortunately, on 24 December 2013, she lost her battle. After that, I put the quilt top aside because I just couldn't bear to look at it. I picked it up again in late May when I had some ability to look at it. I decided to call this quilt “Joie de Vivre" in honor of my mother-in-law since the phrase means a cheerful enjoyment of life. One technique that is used on this quilt that is new to me is the application of beads and crochet. I choose to add in the crochet since my mother-in-law taught me to crochet during her visit with us during Christmas 2012. She taught me three stitches.
